Big Beam No. 166 portable spotlight lantern manufactured by U-C Lite Mfg. Co. of Chicago, Illinois (1). The handheld unit includes a red painted sheet metal battery compartment with a hinged top lid, internal contact plates and wiring, a top metal carrying handle with a white switch, and an adjustable chrome-plated round spotlight housing fitted with a sealed beam lamp and clear lens. The unit is marked "Big Beam Pat. NO. 166 Feb 1953 Sealed Beam U-C LITE MFG. CO. CHICAGO, ILL. U.S.A."
